Hi Me and my partner are planning to backpack from China to Oz at the end of the year and would like some advice. We are planning to fly to Beijing (see all the sites), then to Xian and Hunan (Shaolin Temple). We are stuck on whether to go to Shanghai and Hong Kong. Having a look at programmes and research it seems these parts are going to really break our pockets and theres not really a way round it as the food alone is alot more expensive, then you have the accomodation to worry about aswell. Are these citys worth going to for backpackers as in touristy/sites (looks like Beijing can offer more), or are they mainly for the buisness and holiday makers with alot of cash to spare? We was also thinking of Taiwan aswell but again with the same problem Any answers and advice is appreciated.
