Resolved Question: How do people recognize Fujian people?

I have helped many middle-aged Chinese folks who are trying to shop in an English-speaking mall and about half of them have asked me "Are you a Fujian person?" It always surprises me that they're right because in school, all my friends think I'm either mix or Japanese (we're an Asian-dominant school so we know what Asians look like). I am a 100% Chinese person from Fuzhou but how can people tell the difference between people from one region from another? I can't even spot a difference between Chinese, Korean, and Japanese people. I don't think it's the way I speak Mandarin that gives it away. I grew up learning Mandarin from my mom while my dad worked and my dad's the one from Fuzhou while my mom is from Zhuzhou in Hunan province so I should have her accent, right?
